SYNAPSE – The International Curators’ Network at Haus der Kulturen der Welt
|11.05.2011, Berlin | Haus der Kulturen der Welt has invited 13 up-and-coming curators and one curatorial collective with two participants to share SYNAPSE—The International Curators' Network at Haus der Kulturen der Welt. The first meeting of the newly created network will take place September 7 – 10, 2011 in the framework of the 8th Asia-Pacific Weeks. Moderated by international curators, scientists and other experts, the network meeting of SYNAPSE will focus on the interactions between science and art.|
In interdisciplinary workshops, the SYNAPSE curators (selected through an open call by an international jury) together with the five winning curators of Meridian | Urban. Curatorial Projects on Health (September 7 – 17, 2011) will generate new project ideas. Among other questions, the workshop will address how scientific topics can be approached by curators. Visits to galleries, museums, and project and exhibition spaces will connect the SYNAPSE participants with the vibrant Berlin art scene.
Curating exhibitions that deal with artistic research, the interface of art and science or the presentation of artworks and scientific research findings, is a particular challenge in today’s exhibition practice. Since the Ernst Schering Foundation focuses its activities on the dialogue between art and science and primarily supports exhibitions in this area, we wholeheartedly support the new curators’ network at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt.
Duration of the workshop: September 7 - 10, 2011
