16.05.2012, Berlin | Ab dem 03. Juni 2012 ist im Neuen Berliner Kunstverein die Ausstellung The Future Archive zu sehen, in der zeitgenössische KulturproduzentInnen sich mit wegweisenden künstlerischen Forschungspositionen der 1970er und 80er Jahre am Center for Advanced Visual Studies (CAVS) auseinandersetzen. Das CAVS wurde 1976 von György Kepes am Massachussetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in USA gegründet, seine Direktoren und StipendiatInnen waren mit ihren radikalen Ideen, wie der sogenannten Techno-Social-Bewegung, ihrer Zeit voraus.

When doctors become artists - "Anatomy Lessons" at the 7th Berlin Biennale

14.05.2012, Berlin | What makes a person a patient today? Four Berlin-based doctors explore this and other vital question of modern medicine during an unusual one day experiment titled Anatomy Lessons on June 23rd, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Charité hospital. Plastic surgeon Manfred Frey, internist Michael Häfner, abdominal surgeon Peter Moeschel and paediatric neurosurgeon Ulrich Thomale temporarily assume the role of artists and communicate common notions about the human body via a visual language.

Empty Nest im Kinderzimmer

14.05.2012, Berlin | Seit Herbst letzten Jahres fördert die Schering Stiftung das Kinderzimmer des Deutschen Theaters, eine neue, ganz eigenwillige Spielstätte für Kinder und Jugendliche. Nun ist der grüne Container auf dem Theatervorplatz für die Sommersaison geöffnet und wird mit aufgeklappter Rückwand als Open-Air-Bühne bespielt. In Empty Nest (Premiere: 07. Juni 2012 um 20 Uhr) zeigen Schauspieler des Jugendclubs Szenen rund ums Kinderzimmer, die von Abschied und Neuanfang erzählen sowie von Erinnerungen an die schlimmen und schönen Dinge.

città vibrante | vibrant city. John Cage vs. Iannis Xenakis in der Akademie der Künste

11.04.2012, Berlin | città vibrante | vibrant city ist eine interaktive audiovisuelle Installation von Marco Momi und Florian Rüger, die ab dem 12.04.2012, 19 Uhr parallel zu der Ausstellung „John Cage und…“ in der Akademie der Künste am Hanseatenweg zu erleben ist. Die sensitive begehbare Plattform reagiert auf die Bewegungen der Besucher und entwickelt eine Klang- und Bildwelt, die mit Ton, Bild und audiovisueller Komposition spielt und so zwischen John Cages Komposition per Zufall und Xenakis’ mathematischem Vorgehen schwebt.

CMG-Lecture on Ancient Medicine 2012

26.04.2012, Berlin | The long-term project “Galen of Pergamon. The Transmission, Interpretation and Completion of Ancient Medicine” at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities invites you to the 4th “CMG Lecture on Ancient Medicine” on May 22. The lecture series aims to present selected topics in ancient medicine, and their current relevance, to a broader public. This year’s guest speaker will be Vivian Nutton, Member of the British Academy and the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina.

Haroon Mirza: --{}{}{} {}--{}{}{}{}--{}

08.05.2012, Berlin | The first solo exhibition in Germany by the British artist Haroon Mirza, which opens at Schering Stiftung on May 24, 2012, has a strikingly cryptic title: --{}{}{} {}--{}{}{}{}--{}. As the typographical equivalent of a wave form, it translates sound into a visual representation, thus referring to the work that Mirza developed especially for the Project Space of the Ernst Schering Foundation. The artist uses the shadow gaps that are typical for exhibition spaces as a starting point for creating a new light and sound composition.

The World Is Not Fair - The Great World Fair 2012

24.04.2012, Berlin | From June 1 through June 24, an ambitious project will be on site at the Flugfeld Tempelhof: the Great World’s Fair 2012, an exhibition featuring 15 pavilions, planned and realized by Hebbel am Ufer and the architectural collective raumlaborberlin. Entitled “The World Is Not Fair,” the event is an ironic reference to the tradition of the “expos,” which have been organized for more than 160 years in different locations worldwide. The pavilions on the Tempelhofer Feld do not see themselves as serving the branding of nation-states, but as sites for thinking about the world subjectively and artistically.

April 2012 eine redaktionelle Sonderbeilage im Berliner Tagesspiegel und in der Berliner Auflage von „Die Zeit“. Auf 10 Seiten erfahren Sie, welche Projekte und Veranstaltungen in den Bereichen Kunst und Wissenschaft die Schering Stiftung in diesem Jahr fördert und umsetzt. Ein Highlight der Beilage ist eine grafische Arbeit des Künstlers Christoph Keller zum Medium Aether, die in limitierter und signierter Auflage auch als Edition erscheinen wird.

Ernst Schering Prize 2012 for Proteome-Researcher Matthias Mann

18.01.2012, Berlin | On the 10^th of September 2012 the Schering Foundation Berlin will award the Ernst Schering Prize 2012 for internationally leading accomplishments in the area of medical, biological and chemical basic research to Prof. Matthias Mann, director at the Max-Planck-Institute of Biochemistry in Martinsried. He will receive the prize, which carries an award of 50,000 Euro, for his seminal work exploring the proteome – the complete complement of the proteins of an organism. Matthias Mann has revolutionized the methods that are used for the identification and characterization of proteins, by successfully transferring methods of the physical sciences – such as mass spectrometry – to the area of molecular biology.
