The three-day course focuses on media training as well as work-life balance. In 2012, the first three modules of Young Leaders in Science dealt with issues such as communication and conflict management, team leadership and cooperation, the basics of science management, (appointment) negotiations, as well as the selection and the leading of staff.

In the fourth module, the participating scientists will learn how to deal with the media in a professional way. They will discuss the sciences’ relevance in the media and the possibilities and necessity of a good relationship between journalists and scientists, practice writing press releases, give mock interviews, and analyze the video-taped interviews.

The three-day workshop will conclude by focusing on the topic of work-life balance. In addition to learning theoretical basics on time management, the participants will be briefly tested on their work-life balance and discuss the results. Moreover, we will look at “stress” as a phenomenon of our time and present the model of the “inner team.”

The fifth and last module of the Young Leaders in Science program, scheduled for April 2013, will focus on “Project and Financial Management.”
