Global Virus Network 2013 Spring Meeting

26.04.2013, Berlin/ Munich | We all know the role that viral infections have on our health. On account of continuously increasing globalization and world travel, this day and age bears witness to how new viruses can quickly spread. Nevertheless, the fight against viral diseases is not impossible. It is the mission of the Global Virus Network (GVN) to foster global collaboration in the fight against viruses and to educate the next generation of virus researchers, which is greatly needed. The next meeting oft he GVN takes place from May 30 until June 1, 2013, at the Technical University Munich.

GVN

It offers their 57 member virology centers from 6 continents an important opportunity for scientific dialogue. The GVN meetings, which are essential to the network, constitute members of national and international research institutions, representatives of healthcare organizations, and political leaders.

A workshop will take place on the first day of the meeting on the sustainability of vaccine. International experts will discuss the following three questions:

“Why do we need sustained vaccine responses?”
“How can we achieve sustained antigen responses?”
“Do we have examples for sustained vaccine responses?”

Presentations of scientific highlights (“GVN/DZIF Scientific Hightlights”), open to the public, will take place on the second day of the meeting (May 31, 2013). During this session, GVN and leading German virologists as well as experts of the German Centre for Infection Research (DZIF) will present and discuss their latest research results.

The Ernst Schering Foundation will facilitate this event because of the actuality of its topic in today’s globalized world. Advances in the understanding of causes of diseases as well as the fight against them can only be achieved through the collaboration of various disciplines. Moreover, the meeting promotes the international networking of scientists, scientific institutions and political leaders.
