28.05.2015, Berlin | They are informative, full of surprises – and filled with scientific research. And they are once again wanted! This year, the web video competition “Fast Forward Science” again invites researchers, veteran web video creators, artists, communicators, and just plain science buffs to submit exceptional videos on current research topics. The challenge: The videos should be entertaining, scientifically solid and at the same time easy to understand. Deadline for submission is July 31, 2015.

For the Fast Forward Science 2015 competition, participants can submit science videos in three categories: In the category Substance, the focus is on the thematic depth of the videos. The category Scitainment places special emphasis on the videos’ entertainment value. In the new category Untitled, videos at the interface of art and science compete against each other. The Ernst Schering Foundation has made possible the category Untitled and is a member of the jury. “The younger generation increasingly educates itself via digital images on the web. Fast Forward Science is the answer to that! How to be able to experience and understand the world anew through (moving) images in art and science – this is my topic. Therefore I am all the more excited to be a jury member in the Untitled category,“ explains Heike Catherina Mertens, Arts & Culture Director of the Ernst Schering Foundation.

The first three places in each category receive a prize money of 3,000 euros (1st place), 2,000 euros (2nd place) and 1,000 euros (3rd place). In the Specials category – the 48-hour Challenge Super Fast and the Community Award – the first three places are also presented with awards.

The competition aims to heighten the visibility of German-language scientific web videos. At the same time, Fast Forward Science wants to promote the perception of the web video medium as a thematically solid and entertaining means of communicating scientific topics to a larger mass audience.

The 20,000-euro web video competition Fast Forward Science is a joint project of Wissenschaft im Dialog (Science in Dialogue) and the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft and is supported by the Ernst Schering Foundation.
