Avrion Mitchison Prize and Albrecht Hasinger Lecture 2017

29.11.2017, Berlin | On December 5, at 5 p.m., the German Rheumatism Research Center will host the award ceremony of the 2017 Avrion Mitchison Prize of the Schering Stiftung as well as the Albrecht Hasinger Lecture 2017. This year’s Avrion Mitchison Prize is awarded to Rafael Leite Dantas from the Center for Molecular Biology of Inflammation in Münster. He is honored for his research on regulating the signal pathway of chronic autoimmune diseases, such as psoriasis. As part of the award presentation, he will talk about his research. The award ceremony will be followed by this year’s Albrecht Hasinger Lecture, given by Prof. Dr. Stefan Rose-John, director of the Institute of Biochemistry at the University of Kiel. He will talk about “The Biology of Interleukin-6 and Its Role in Autoimmunity.

The German Rheumatism Research Center (DRFZ) annually awards the Avrion Mitchison Prize of the Schering Stiftung for the best experimental, clinical or epidemiological work in the field of chronic inflammation. The prize is given to young scientists from German-speaking countries in recognition of their excellent scientific work. It carries a prize money of 2,500 euro and is endowed by the Ernst Schering Foundation.

The Albrecht Hasinger Lecture was launched in 1994 in memory of the former state secretary of health Albrecht Hasinger, the founding father and first president of the Board of Trustees of the DRFZ. The lecture is the opening event of the annual further education program organized by the Charité Berlin for rheumatologists from all over Germany.
