Management Change at the Schering Stiftung

25.01.2018, Berlin | Heike Catherina Mertens, Managing Director and Artistic Program Director of the Schering Stiftung, will leave the foundation and assume the post of Program Director at the renowned publisher Hatje Cantz on March 1, 2018.

Heike Catherina Mertens

Since 2007, Heike Catherina Mertens has significantly shaped the profile of the Schering Stiftung as an internationally active promoter of the arts and the life sciences, in particular where the two fields overlap. Her leadership saw the opening of the Project Space of the Schering Stiftung at Unter den Linden, providing a forum for artists such as Carsten Höller, Carsten Nicolai, Haroon Mirza, and Daria Martin and exploring the influence of science on art through lectures and symposiums. Her initiative led to numerous collaborations with prestigious cultural and research institutions, including, for example, the development of the Schering Collection of contemporary drawings at the Kupferstichkabinett (Museum of Prints and Drawings) in Berlin, the presentation of the Schering Stiftung Art Award in cooperation with KW Institute for Contemporary Art, and interdisciplinary symposiums on biomedical issues. In addition, she has edited numerous exhibition catalogues and artists’ books and founded the Schering Stiftung Publication Series.
