19.07.2017, Lviv | The international Parajanov Festival, which takes place from August 20 to 27, 2017, in Lviv (Ukraine), was conceived specifically for the Levandivka neighborhood – a former industrial district, which today is home to more than 120,000 people from different nationalities and generations living far from the center of the Ukrainian city. The Parajanov Festival for the promotion of intercultural dialogue and contemporary art is one of the two winning projects of the 2017 kultur-im-dialog.eu+ competition, which is held annually by MitOst e.V. and the Schering Stiftung.

Acousmatic Lecture Series

26.06.2017, Berlin | The Acousmatic Lecture Series in Berlin presents a program of unconventional interdisciplinary lectures: Listeners engage solely with the abstract verbal and acoustic information of the speaker’s voice and thus are confronted with the act of listening itself. The series kicks off on July 6, 2017, at 7 p.m., with a talk by Prof. Sabeth Buchmann. Additional lectures take place on July 13 (Prof. Dr. Birgit Schneider), September 14 (Prof. Dr. Hans-Jörg Rheinberger), October 19 (Dr. Alex Arteaga), all at 7 p.m., and October 5, 2017 (Prof. Dr. Markus Gabriel), 5:30 p.m. at the Errant Sound Project Space.

Weiter Schreiben. A literary portal for authors from crisis areas

02.04.2017, Berlin | The project “Weiter Schreiben” (Writing On) publishes texts by authors from crisis areas, thus giving them a voice to make the majority society aware of their themes and issues. The Ernst Schering Foundation supports the web portal "weiterschreiben.jetzt," since it broadens the discussion about the causes of flight, gives the writers the opportunity to continue to work, and enables participation through literary-artistic access. The portal enriches our literature and culture and at the same time offers the prospect of more quickly reviving the countries’ artistic and cultural life after the end of the crises and wars in the writers’ countries of origin.

Superhumanity at the 3rd Istanbul Design Biennial

29.09.2016, Berlin | What forms of life are currently being designed? “Superhumanity” is an online publication project by e-flux Architecture, initiated by Nikolaus Hirsch and Anton Vidokle (e-flux) in collaboration with Beatriz Colomina and Mark Wigley (curators of the 3rd Istanbul Design Biennial 2016), and in cooperation with Ernst Schering Foundation. In “The Obligation to Self-Design” (e-flux journal, 2008), Boris Groys traces a possible genealogy of design from the design of the soul and the design of the self to “the design of life as a whole” as the very means of realizing a political project. Reading Groys in reverse, we could say that design constructs the project of life, understood as a political act. “Superhumanity” will introduce contributions from different fields that explore the intimate and fundamental relationship between the concepts of “design” and “the human” provoked by the Biennial's theme: Are We Human? Contributions will initially appear online at e-flux.com, within the Biennial itself, and subsequently as a book.
